4 overnight shootings in Everett leave 2 men wounded

The city of Everett is on edge after four shootings overnight left two men injured.

Including the latest cases, there have been eight shootings in the city since Wednesday.

In all, seven men have been shot over the last few days. One man died.

Everett police said they are taking these shootings seriously.

This latest shooting spree began a few feet away at a memorial for a teenager who was killed last month.

In less than an hour, there was another shooting about 2 miles away in the parking lot at Players Sports Bar on 19th Avenue Southeast -- one of four overnight shootings in Everett.

“I didn’t hear anything last night,” said Mike Olden who lives across the street. “I fell asleep on the couch reading and didn’t hear anything.”

But his neighbors told him they did.

No one at Players would talk on camera. But Everett police said the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Shortly after, police said a man with gunshot wounds showed up at a hospital in Mill Creek.

“It’s concerning,” Olden said. “These are adults in our little community here. There’re no kids around. But there’s still a lot of activity up and down the street.”

Nearly an hour earlier, a man was shot in the 7600 block of Beverly Boulevard outside a memorial for 17-year-old Gabriel Kartak, who died in a shootout three weeks ago.

By 1:30 a.m. Saturday, there were two more shootings on Evergreen Way and W. Casino Road.

“I don’t know if you could say it’s a surprise, but right now it is kind of unprecedented numbers,” Everett police Officer Ora Hamel said, adding that the city is dipping into its overtime budget to step up patrols in the neighborhoods hit by the violence.

“We just want to make sure that we’re doing right by our citizens and that we’re doing right by the victims, bringing justice to them as quickly as possible,” Hamel said.

“Well, that’s great to hear,” Olden said. “Once in a while, I’ll see Everett police or (the) Snohomish County sheriff drive up and down the street.”

Everett police have been seen heavily patrolling this area.

In fact, we were parked close to the memorial that has now been the scene of at least two shootings. A couple of officers suggested that we move just in case.
