Amazon plans to hire 125,000 delivery, warehouse workers

SEATTLE — Amazon is planning to hire 125,000 delivery and warehouse workers in hundreds of cities and towns across the U.S.

The company said Tuesday that it is paying new hires an average of $18 an hour, and up to $22.50 per hour in some locations in a tight job market as more people shop online.

The new jobs are in addition to the 40,000 corporate and technology jobs announced earlier this month.

Hiring is already underway and sign-on bonuses of up to $3,000 are available in some locations. Job seekers can visit www.amazon.com/apply to apply.

Some of the states with the most roles include Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.

In addition, Amazon is hosting a Career Day on Sept. 15. The free virtual event will offer career-coaching sessions with Amazon recruiters.

To keep up with the surge in online ordering, Amazon said it opened more than 250 new warehouses, sorting centers, regional air hubs, and delivery stations in the U.S. this year, and will open more than 100 more buildings in September alone.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Amazon said it has hired more than 450,000 people in the U.S. The company said 1 in 10 hourly employees who have been with the company at least six months have been promoted.
