Collision on I-5 in Everett creates traffic backup during morning commute

EVERETT, Wash. — The two right lanes were blocked on southbound Interstate 5 in Everett, just north of State Route 526, for a single-car collision. The collision created significant travel backups during Wednesday’s morning commute.

Troopers with the Washington State Patrol confirmed that the added travel time was due to a non-injury collision involving a semi-truck with a trailer.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the collision happened around 3:30 a.m., and both the Washington State Patrol and the Incident Response team responded. Drivers were told to plan for added travel time and consider seeking alternate routes.

By 7 a.m., only the right lane remained blocked, but the backup for travelers was about 7 miles. Trooper Kelsey Harding with the Washington State Patrol asked drivers to please use caution while tow operators work to remove the vehicle safely.

The collision and lanes were both cleared by 7:30 a.m., but the nearly 9-mile traffic backup remained.
