TACOMA, Wash. — An early morning house fire left a family displaced, including a 15-year-old girl who was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Tacoma Fire Department investigators believe the fire started outside in a garage area and extended into the main house, according to a Tacoma city spokesperson. The fire then extended into the second floor and attic of the home.
A family member told KIRO 7 a 15-year-old girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center after she “jumped out of the second floor.”
The 15-year-old girl was in the intensive care unit in critical condition, according to a spokesperson with Harborview Medical Center on Friday morning.
Angela, the mother of the homeowner, said the teenager also was being treated for smoke inhalation.
The home, which is on North Alder Street and near the University of Puget Sound campus in Tacoma’s North End, was so badly damaged that it’s considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Tacoma Fire Department.
