Mother allegedly confesses to killing 4-year-old daughter in Georgia

EAST POINT, Ga. — A mother in East Point, Georgia, allegedly confessed to killing her 4-year-old daughter last week, officials say.

According to a news release from the East Point Police Department, Nicole Ashley Jackson, 27, has been arrested in connection with the death of a child, injury to another minor and the setting of an apartment fire.

Jackson is the mother of a dead child and a child that was injured in the fire on Nov. 23 at 3072 Washington Road, according to EPPD.

According to WSB-TV, Jackson allegedly confessed to setting the fire and to hiding the body of her four-year-old daughter.

When the fire happened, fire crews said they noticed heavy smoke from the building and immediately began working to put out the fire, according to WSB-TV. Once the fire was out, fire crews began to search and rescue efforts. During their search, they located the body of the four-year-old.

According to WSB-TV, the twin sister of the deceased girl was also at home during the time of the fire. She was severely burned and is now in her grandmother’s custody.

Seven other families were displaced because of the fire, according to WSB-TV. The Red Cross stepped in to assist those families.

It is unclear when the four-year-old died or how long she has been dead, according to WSB-TV.

Jackson has been charged with felony murder, criminal attempt to commit murder and two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, according to WSB-TV.

Fire officials told WSB-TV that an autopsy is underway for the four-year-old. The cause of death is expected to be released soon. No further information has been released.
