Late offensive outburst lifts Mariners to 7-2 win over A’s in 10 innings

Offense was hard to come by for the Mariners through the first six innings, but the bats came alive late Wednesday night as Seattle secured a 7-2 win over the Oakland A’s for their third straight victory.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when A’s outfielder Esteury Ruiz hit an RBI double to score Ryan Noda from second.

Second baseman Tony Kemp followed that up with an RBI double of his own to score Ruiz and give the A’s a 2-0 lead.

The Mariners answered in the top of the seventh inning, as A.J. Pollock hit a one-out double and later scored on Jose Caballero’s third hit of the night, an RBI single to center, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

With the Mariners down to their final two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Pollock came up big again with a solo home run to tie the game at two runs apiece.

After starting the 10th inning with an automatic runner on second and a walk drawn by Julio Rodriguez, a three-run home run by Eugenio Suarez gave the Mariners a 5-2 lead.

One batter later, Teoscar Hernandez doubled to left field, which was followed by consecutive walks by Cal Raleigh and Pollock.

A J.P. Crawford single brought Hernandez and Raleigh home to make it a 7-2 Mariners lead.

First pitch for the final game of the three-game series is set for 12:37 p.m. Thursday in Oakland.
