SEATTLE — Seattle police are searching for a group of people who stole $2 million in merchandise from a West Seattle jewelry store.
It happened around noon on Thursday at Menashe & Sons Jewelers on California Avenue Southwest.
Officers say the four masked suspects were armed with hammers and bear spray – smashing windows and six display cases to get the jewelry.
The entire thing lasted 90 seconds, police said.
“You could still hear like a lot of breaking glass and banging around and stuff, so they were in there around noon still robbing the store while everyone was on the phone calling the cops,” said Bret Gibson, an employee at the gym Industrious across the street.
The suspects sped off in a car before police could arrive.
Police say they stole jewelry, diamonds and luxury watches.
According to the police report, “one of the glass jewelry displays contained 700-800k in Rolex watches, another contained an emerald necklace valued at $125k and a platinum diamond. Two other display cases contained a large amount of gold jewelry.”
“They all did the right thing just get out of the store let them do their thing and just make sure everybody’s safe,” Gibson said.
Officers are actively searching the area for them.
The Robbery Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and the Photo and Video Units responded to process the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. Anonymous tips are accepted.
