Apple Watch alert saves skier after falling 1,000 feet near Stevens Pass

Skier waves down rescue helicopter on Steven's Pass

STEVENS PASS, Wash. — A piece of technology likely saved a backcountry skier from freezing to death.

King County Air Support was called in to help the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office after an Apple Watch SOS came through, about an injured skier.

The only information that deputies had was that the skier had fallen 1,000 feet and had a leg injury.

Rescue specialists responded just after sunset and eventually found the skier.

In video from King County Air Support, you can see the skier’s friend waving down the helicopter.

The rescue happened on Wednesday near Union Peak.

No word on how the skier is doing.
