AUBURN, Wash. — The Auburn Police Department (APD) is asking for the public’s help in identifying an armed robbery suspect.
On August 8th, a masked man reportedly climbed through a window at the BigFoot Java coffee stand and held two baristas at gunpoint, APD said in a release.
He didn’t get away with much money, as the business is cashless.
Police say he then allegedly stole their tip jar and fired a single gunshot into the roof before he ran. No one was injured in the incident.
“I can’t imagine that experience and going through that,” said Kolby Crossley, Public Information Officer for Auburn Police. “That rush of emotions and what that may feel like.”
Staff at the BigFoot Java stand confirmed the two baristas had quit from the business after the experience.
The company was unable to provide an official statement, but a manager told KIRO 7 the entire team at the location targeted was undergoing robbery and de-escalation training on Thursday.
“It’s important to just comply in those kind of situations,” Crossley said. “Don’t try to be a hero. Obviously, the few dollars in the tip jar is not worth your life.”
Auburn PD asks if you recognize the man or have any information to call their tip line at 253-288-7403.
