Bartell Drugs closes after 135-year run

Bartell Drugs

WASHINGTON — Washington staple Bartell Drugs closed for good over the weekend.

The closure marks the end of the chain’s 135-year run.

In July, just two months after Rite Aid filed its second bankruptcy, CVS said it would take over 20 of the remaining 34 Bartell stores.

Since then, the stores have been rebranded.

The remaining 14 closed down and sent prescriptions to nearby CVS stores.

Bartell’s was the oldest drugstore chain in Seattle.
