EDMONDS, Wash. — Law enforcement are investigating after a car apparently went over a ferry dock during a police chase, killing at least two of the five occupants.
The incident occurred around 11:26 p.m. on Tuesday.
While minimal information has been made available, Washington State Patrol (WSP) and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office told KIRO 7 that deputies were chasing the car when it drove onto the ferry terminal and off the dock, into the water.
Troopers said they saw the vehicle around 11:11 p.m. on I-5 doing 79 mph in a 60 mph zone, so they initiated a pursuit. They then called off the chase and Snohomish County deputies started their own.
Around 15 minutes later, the vehicle was airborne and launched off the dock.
Two people have been confirmed dead so far and three were taken to Harborview Medical Center, their conditions unknown, according to WSP.
The ages of the people involved are unknown.
The ferry route was out of service for three and a half hours while law enforcement investigated.
This is a developing story.
KIRO 7 will have updates as they become available.
