Just after 12 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies got the call to help with a court order.
“The initial call was really just to support this reporting party with gathering some belongings from a home,” said Deputy Carly Cappetto, Public Information Officer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
When deputies arrived, she said the man inside the house turned out to be a wanted man.
“He did not want to be contacted by police. Obviously, he was aware of his felony warrants. And so, he decided to flee and get into his vehicle before we could make contact with him,” Cappetto explained.
Cappetto says the suspect sped off and hit a patrol car on his way out to 208th Street Southeast.
Then, she says, the white Audi drove through a fence and launched into the roof of the front porch of a house.
“Was recklessly taking off and didn’t calculate his turn very well and, and therefore he ran into the fence and hit this home,” she said.
When it happened, the homeowner told KIRO 7 he was inside the house with his family. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Cappetto says the suspect only got a block or two away, but this shows how dangerous evading officers could be in such a short amount of time.
“We were very lucky he did not get out to a, like a main road, and there was very light traffic and, and he ended up wrecking out himself before the pursuit even really got underway,” she said.
Deputies say the suspect was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be booked into Pierce County Jail once he’s out.
