'Hug your kids': Father's plea at memorial for son killed in Shelton shooting

On Friday, a community in Shelton came together to mourn the loss of a 19-year-old man shot and killed inside his home earlier this week.

The family of the victim, Izaiha Fryer, stood side by side with more than 100 people at his memorial.

“He was 19-year-old, you know, trying to figure out his way in life, you know, and it was suddenly stopped,” said Jacob Fryer, Izaiha’s father.

Jacob is still at a loss for words knowing that his first-born son was taken so tragically.

He says Izaiha was home watching a movie with a friend at the time.

“He heard a knock at the door and then the person came in with another accomplice and then shot him,” he explained.

Court documents say Izaiha knew the two suspects, Adrian Martinez-Lawson,18, and Jack Evans, 19.

Police say Martinez-Lawson showed up at Izaiha’s home, got into an argument, shot Izaiha and ran away. The two suspects were arrested soon after.

Jacob says his son had history with Martinez-Lawson.

“They had a falling out. I actually know the kid too that did it. Ruined his life also, along with others,” he said.

Jacob described his son as bright young man with a lot of goals for the future.

“Izaiha was a good kid. He’d give the shirt off his back. He would let people, you know, give them a place off the streets to stay. Always had respect.”

The love Izaiha seemed to show others came right back on Friday when crowds of people gathered to remember him.

“We do have good in this town that will also back us,” he said.

Jacob hopes that more can be done to influence the youth in Mason County. He believes getting them off their phones and getting them involved in sports or other activities can help keep them away from trouble.

He also urges everyone to keep their loved ones close.

“Just hug your kids, hug your kids. Love them, hug your mom and dad call them reach out to them. If you think about somebody, give him a shout out because you might be the only one that reached out to them sometimes.”

Both suspects, Martinez-Lawson,18, and Evans, 19, face 2nd-degree murder charges.
