A standoff in Lakewood left multiple people injured. According to police, their officers initially responded to a report of a suspicious person around 9 a.m. Wednesday. They then say the suspected jumped a fence, going onto Joint Base Lewis-McChord property. They say he then left the base, and went into a local business named FS Solutions, barricading himself inside.
“It was crazy,” local business employee Paul Tremlett told KIRO 7.
Tremlett said his normal morning working at Dirk’s Truck Repair was interrupted by the sound of sirens.
“I go out the back door and I find my guys standing around looking at what’s going on with all police and fire trucks,” he said.
He says police then told them to go into lockdown because of the nearby standoff. Then, a little before noon, officers told them they needed to evacuate quickly.
“Lakewood PD said it’s escalated, get out,” Tremlett said.
He said they then heard shooting.
“One of my employees was coming into work and he heard 8-10 shots, he doesn’t know who shot who when where what,” he said.
A victim who was trapped inside with the suspect a couple buildings over spoke to KIRO 7 and said he tried to fight the gun away from the suspect but was assaulted. He went to the hospital, but his family tells KIRO 7 he is out now.
According to police, the suspect also went to the hospital after he was shot. KIRO 7 asked a representative with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office who shot him. They say the PCFIT is investigating.
KIRO 7 also asked for an update on the suspect’s injuries and if they have been released from the hospital. They were not able to answer those questions.
