LEAVENWORTH, Wash. — A multi-vehicle crash blocked all lanes on US 2 in both directions on Monday near the Nason Creek Rest Area, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Four vehicles were involved, and four people were injured, according to WSP.

People stuck in traffic at the scene reported that a helicopter had arrived to take folks to the hospital.

At first, WSP reported “serious” injuries. A report released the next morning confirmed that five people had been involved in the crash, with four injured.

According to the report, two cars were heading westbound on US-2 and slowed for heavy traffic when a black Kia Soul came up behind them and crossed a double yellow line to “improperly pass” both of them. The black Kia Soul re-entered the westbound lanes and struck one of the cars, a white Kia Soul, which then spun around and hit another car that was parked unoccupied on the shoulder. Both the white Kia Soul and the unoccupied vehicle blocked the westbound lanes. The black Kia Soul also hit the second car it had tried to pass, and ended up blocking the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the black Kia Soul, a 59-year-old man from Florida, was injured and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His passenger, a 51-year-old woman from Mukilteo, was taken to Central Washington Hospital.

The 24-year-old man who was driving the white Kia Soul was taken to Harborview Medical Center along with his passenger, a 24-year-old woman. Both are reportedly from Philadelphia.

The driver of the third car was not injured. The fourth car was unoccupied.

The crash was reported around 4:30 p.m. The area is about 18 miles outside of Leavenworth, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The roadway was completely blocked for several hours while WSP troopers investigated.
