Man suspected of DUI arrested after crash with motorcyclist in Puyallup, rider hospitalized

PUYALLUP, Wash. — The driver of a pickup truck has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing with a motorcyclist in Puyallup.

Around 6:02 p.m. on Sunday, a person on a motorcycle going east on 39th Avenue Southwest was seriously injured when a pickup truck coming from 7th Street Southwest hit him.

According to the Puyallup Police Department, the driver in the pickup did not yield the right-of-way causing the crash.

The 28-year-old motorcycle rider from Pierce County was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The 72-year-old pickup driver was evaluated and arrested for DUI, police said.

The Metro Major Collision Response Team is investigating the crash and warned that it could take hours.

During the investigation, 39th Avenue Southwest will be closed between 9th Street Southwest and 5th Street Southwest in both directions.
