More major construction starts at Climate Pledge Arena

SEATTLE — More major construction started at the new Climate Pledge Arena in downtown Seattle Monday.

It's all geared toward getting the stadium built for Seattle's new NHL hockey team, the Seattle Kraken, coming in another year or so.

Construction has been ongoing for months, but now major materials and equipment are being set into place. A crane that will be used to install a steel truss for the parking garage was delivered around 5 a.m.

A temporary roof support will be removed, and steel erection and utilities installation continue and as the arena interior takes shape.

Though there will be a lot of activity in the area, construction officials say it is not expected to generate higher noise levels.

Construction is allowed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but big impact work will only happen during the day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

There will be noise barriers, and operations such as jack hammering will be limited. Work with concrete saws won't happen at night.

There will also be enclosures for some equipment as part of measures to limit noise.

Excavation activities and installation of underground utilities will be installed during the evening hours.
