Hours of gridlock after a seven-car crash on SR 520 shuts down all westbound lanes on Friday

SEATTLE — Around 6:15 p.m., the Washington Department of Transportation posted on X about a westbound State Route 520 car crash at Montlake Boulevard East.

WSP said that a black Jaguar hit 6 cars before stopping in lane 2. The other cars were spread out in other lanes.

The driver in one car had been pulled and was in stable condition.

Seattle Fire said that crews had to extricate two people in two separate cars. A 42-year-old man in serious condition was taken to Harborview Medical Center and a woman was taken to the hospital by AMR. Crews evaluated 9 riders in a bus but all declined to go to the hospital.

A spokesperson for King County Metro said that the bus was not involved in the crash.

A total of five people were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

WSP said that the cause of the crash was a medical emergency and did not involve drugs or alcohol.

The road was reopened 3 hours and 34 minutes later.
