In dramatic fashion, the Climate Pledge Arena sign is now up at the new arena at Seattle Center. A helicopter airlifted each of the four signs and carefully placed them atop the historic roof of the new arena.
“That was really cool to watch. Never seen anything like that before,” said Tom Jones.
On the ground, a crowd gathered to capture the moment and official crowning of the new Climate Pledge Arena.
It will be home to the Seattle Kraken, the city’s new hockey team and four-time WNBA champs Seattle Storm.
“It’s just amazing the only word I can put into it. It was just amazing seeing this happen, just another major milestone for Seattle sports,” Mike Schabbing said.
Amazon bought the naming rights months ago but the switch to Climate Pledge Arena marks likely the first time a sports and entertainment venue has been named for a social cause.
“We’re excited to have a physical representation of our zero carbon foot print goals for the building. And our commitment to climate pledge so it’s just real exciting to see the signs up on top of its roof,” said Rosie Selle, Vice President of Marketing from Climate Pledge Arena.
The arena is still under renovation, and it will be another year before the Kraken hit the ice. But with the sign now up, season ticket holders say it’s worth the wait.
“I never would have thought hockey would have been here. And I think it’s awesome that it’s coming. We got our season tickets. Looking forward to being in that arena next year and just seeing some hockey,” Jones added.
The Climate Pledge Arena sign is officially in place after being airlifted in this morning. Are you getting excited?!
