The Seattle Police Department (SPD) says one person has died following a crash involving a fire engine and another car on Saturday morning in the Bitter Lake neighborhood.
At around 5 a.m., a Seattle Fire Department ladder engine was returning from a call when it was hit by a Chevy Malibu at North 128th Street and Aurora Avenue North, SPD said.
The firefighters inside the truck found two men inside the car and started treatment, Seattle Fire said.
The 29-year-old man behind the wheel was declared dead while the 18-year-old man in the passenger seat was brought to Harborview in serious condition, according to Seattle Fire.
Seattle Police said the fire truck was making a right turn onto Aurora Avenue heading southbound while the Malibu, heading south on Aurora, collided with the truck at high speed.
Officials say the firefighters in the truck were not injured.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and serious injury of the two vehicle occupants involved in this morning’s collision with a Seattle Fire ladder truck. Their families and loved ones are in our thoughts during this difficult time. Seattle Police are investigating this traffic collision and will release more information as available,” Seattle Fire Chief Harold D. Scoggins said.
