SEATTLE — A man was shot dead in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood early on New Year’s Eve.
Seattle Police Department officers have shut down the corner of East Pike and Broadway Street while they investigate.
According to SPD, the victim was a 29-year-old man who was shot multiple times and killed.
The Seattle Department of Transportation asked drivers to seek alternate routes and use caution while traveling through the area.

Seattle police say this is the 58th homicide of the year.
Officers first responded to reports of gunshots just before 3 a.m. — when they got to the scene, they found the man with several gunshot wounds to his torso. At least ten or more shell casings were found.
Police tried to give the victim medical aid, but he died at the scene.
A man who has lived in the area for nine years told KIRO 7 his neighborhood is becoming more dangerous.
“People ought to feel safety... I ought to be able to walk my wife to work without all this,” he said.
He was emotional as we watched the coroner’s office take the body away.
“That’s somebody’s baby, makes me wanna cry to be honest, he’s lying over there on the ground... how do you see something like that, not feel something, not want to make a change,” he said. “They say a picture is worth a thousand words, that’s more that’s a million words. That’s crazy. In the middle of the street in front of a grocery store?”
No arrests have been made, but police say there is no reason to be concerned.
“There’s no info this was anything beyond an isolated incident, so this is a dangerous person that needs to be apprehended, clearly, but no info there is any more danger to the public,” said SPD.
SPD says they will have extra patrols in the area as people head out for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
