EVERETT, Wash. — Police are searching for the suspect in a reported kidnapping in Everett on Wednesday evening.
According to police, a female victim called 911 around 5:25 p.m. to report that a man had grabbed her and tried to pull her into the back of an SUV in a residential area of Everett’s Holly neighborhood, near the intersection of Dakota Way and Montana Road. She said she was able to fight the man off before calling the police.
“That’s unbelievable,” Wes Heard said. “I’m glad that she did get away.”
Wes lives along Dakota Way. He told KIRO 7 he started to realize something was going on when numerous patrol cars parked on his driveway and front lawn, triggering his security cameras.
“They were searching back and forth around all night last night,” Heard said.
Everett police couldn’t find the suspect or his car, which is believed to be similar to a Black Chevrolet SUV. The man was described as an older, heavyset white man with a short beard and salt-and-pepper hair.
“No one wants to hear that kind of stuff in their neighborhood, especially right here in front of your house,” Heard said.
Heard says the street in front of his house is typically busy, with lots of traffic, people walking dogs, and several school busses dropping off kids in the afternoon.
“It’s a weird area,” said Tony Cabais, who lives further north than Heard. “We have some crime going on here in the South Everett area, and it seems to be getting worse, not better.”
Cabais said he was surprised to hear a female was nearly kidnapped. He and Heard told KIRO 7 they are going to keep an extra eye out on their children.
“I’m not comfortable about it, when I have my grandkids around me, I’m not going to let them run around and play and all that until we know that it’s safe,” Cabais said.
Everett police have not released any details yet regarding the victim, but have asked anyone with information to call the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450 or the Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS. Police are especially looking for surveillance footage from the area around the time of the reported crime.
