SEATTLE — Detectives are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash in Seattle’s Brighton neighborhood.
According to a release from the Seattle Police Department (SPD), officers responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a car near Rainier Avenue South and South Willow Street at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
A motorcycle could be seen lying in the middle of the road, while the front windshield of a black sedan was smashed inward with the airbags deployed.
Arriving officers found a 29-year-old man critically injured in the street, but despite lifesaving measures from Seattle Fire Department medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman, who was driving the sedan, was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert officer at the scene. SPD says no signs of impairment were found.
Witnesses told police the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Rainier Avenue South, weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed shortly before the crash. He then collided with the black sedan that was heading eastbound on South Willow Street and crossing Rainier Avenue South.
Drivers were told to avoid the area and expect delays as some nearby roads were shut down. By 1:41 a.m., the Seattle Department of Transportation confirmed that the road had been cleared.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call them at 206-684-8923.
