Probationary Pierce County corrections deputy arrested in Tacoma for vehicular assault, DWI

A Pierce County probationary corrections deputy was arrested in Tacoma for vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

Tacoma police say that just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the victim approached her ex-partner while he was inside his car after they left a local restaurant and bar.

Both people were drunk, investigators said.

Detectives said the victim fell, possibly because she was drunk, and was lying on the ground when her ex-partner drove and hit her.

Police said the suspect stopped his vehicle, and a witness later approached him, which led to a fight before officers arrived.

The suspect remained at the scene and was arrested for vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for facial fractures.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with KIRO 7 News that the suspect is Cameron Boucher, a Pierce County probationary corrections deputy.

Tacoma detectives said it’s not clear if the suspect intentionally or accidentally drove and hit the victim.

Investigators added that the suspect had friends with him that morning who were assigned to be designated drivers.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are urging people to drink and celebrate responsibly, including during the holiday season.

“It’s that one time that someone under the influence strikes somebody, runs over someone, gets into a fight, pulls out a gun and engages in gunplay. That someone else’s life. An entire family’s life could be changed and in some cases, an entire community is changed by reckless behavior,” said Detective William Muse, Public Information Officer for the Tacoma Police Department. “It’s hard to see and again the effects of just a couple moments of fun tend to be irreversible. I just ask people to be careful.”

KIRO 7 News contacted the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office for more details about the suspect. We’re still waiting to hear back.
