RENTON, Wash. — Construction on Renton’s new RapidRide line is officially underway.
The City of Renton announced on X Sunday that traffic patterns might begin to change as crews start the 17-mile project.
They highlight Talbot Road S, S Grady Way, and SE Carr Road as possible problem areas, with construction running 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
King County Metro’s website also notes that commuters can expect the following to take place:
- Temporary parking restrictions
- Periodic lane and driveway closures
- Large machinery and truck activity
- Construction staging and parking impacts near some construction sites
- Some sidewalk, intersection, and lane closures
- Detours for people walking, biking and rolling
- Temporary bus detours and bus stop relocations for Route 160 and other area transit and bus routes.
- Flaggers to direct traffic around work areas
Planning for the RapidRide I Line started in 2019, with the whole project set to be completed next year.
The I Line will “upgrade” Route 160 and run through Auburn, Kent, and Renton, according to King County Metro. It will also provide connections to the Sounder Train, add 82 RapidRide stations, improvements to 27 intersections, and over 60 enhancements to crosswalks.
