SKYWAY, Wash. — The King County Sheriff’s Office says a man suspected of hitting and killing a person in Skyway Thursday night has been arrested after a tip from passing drivers led to the discovery of the vehicle near North Bend.
Around 3:15 p.m. Friday, a Washington State Patrol trooper located the motorhome involved in the crash at Exit 34 along Interstate 90, in the Truck Town area near North Bend.
According to investigators, the vehicle—a white 1999 Royal Classic RV with heavy damage on the passenger side—had been featured on digital reader boards across the state earlier in the day as part of a Hit and Run Alert.
Several drivers called 911 after spotting the RV in the area, prompting the trooper to locate and stop the vehicle without incident.
Deputies and detectives with the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and detained the occupants of the RV.
The man believed to have been driving during the fatal crash was arrested and booked into the King County Jail Friday evening for investigation of vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run.
The RV was seized and towed from the scene for forensic analysis.
The original incident happened Thursday around 10:30 p.m. in the 12600 block of 68th Avenue South.
A 911 caller reported that someone had been hit by a vehicle and was pinned under it in front of a home.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the victim seriously injured and the driver gone. Firefighters attempted lifesaving measures, but the person died at the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the RV had also crashed into several parked vehicles in the driveway before fleeing the scene.
The department’s Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
The victim was later identified as 45-year-old Susana Garcia-Perez.
The King County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine what charges to file.
Authorities credited the motorists who reported the RV with helping bring a quick resolution to the first stage of the investigation.
