Seattle police to give out steering wheel locks in response to rise in Kia, Hyundai thefts

SEATTLE — In response to the rise in car thefts involving Kia and Hyundai models, the Seattle Police Department is giving out steering wheel locks to anyone who lives or works in the city with a focus on those who lease or own Kia or Hyundai vehicles.

The locks are available free of charge and will be given out later this month at SPD’s East, West, North, South, and Southwest precincts:

East Precinct - 1519 12th Ave.

  • April 25, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • April 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

West Precinct - 810 Virginia St.

  • April 20, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • April 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — This event is at Hing Hay Park (423 Maynard Ave. S.)

North Precinct - 10049 College Way N.

  • April 21, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • April 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

South Precinct - 3001 S. Myrtle St.

  • April 27, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • April 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Southwest Precinct - 2300 SW Webster St.

  • April 15, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • April 20, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Only one lock is allowed per person, and locks cannot be set aside or held due to limited availability.
