PARKLAND, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a person accused of killing his father.

Around 8 p.m., deputies responded to a shots-fired call in Parkland at a home off Spanaway Loop Road S.

According to the sheriff’s office, a 41-year-old shot his 63-year-old father.

Deputies were able to get the victim out of the home, but despite efforts to save his life, the man died from his injuries.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but the sheriff’s office said there may have been a mental health component.

The 41-year-old ran into a bedroom of the home and barricaded himself inside.

After about 20 minutes of negotiating with the suspect, he came out of the bedroom and was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.

This shooting comes a few hours after another man was shot and killed in Tacoma.
