Speeding driver flips car half a mile from elementary school in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue crews responded after the driver sped off the road and flipped their car into sticker bushes in Lake Stevens on Tuesday afternoon.

According to SRFR, the driver was heading northbound on 103rd Avenue Southeast and 32nd Street Southeast just before 4 p.m. when their car flew off the roadway and flipped into sticker bushes.

The car missed a light pole by a few feet, SRFR said. The driver was able to crawl out to medics on their own power and only suffered minor injuries.

At the time of the crash, students at Glenwood Elementary were being released a half mile north in the direction the driver was heading, SRFR said.

The crash caused school buses to get stuck in traffic as emergency vehicles blocked the road.

“We are happy no one was seriously hurt and ask all drivers to drive safe year round. This could have been much worse a half mile down the road or if the driver hit the light pole,” SRFR said in its Facebook post.
