Starting Monday the Washington State Department of Transportation is getting work on some of the passes currently closed over the winter because of snow.
State Route 20 North Cascades Highway is the first on the list.
WSDOT said the process takes between 6 to 8 weeks to complete as crews work their way up from both the west and east sides.
“Remember, starting next week there will be no access to recreational activities beyond the closure gates as they will be active work zones,” said WSDOT. “Recreation will still be allowed on the weekends but be sure you’re aware of avalanche concerns before heading up.”
Work to start clearing SR 410 Chinook Pass will start on April 3. WSDOT said the goal is to get Chinook and SR 123 Cayuse Pass open by about Memorial Day.
