Thief breaks into Lakewood gaming and collectibles shop

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Robert Cantrell, owner of PNW Gaming & Collectibles in Lakewood, is once again counting his losses after his shop was burglarized early Monday morning.

The thief was caught on surveillance, after using a rock to break through a glass door.

Robert says it’s the same guy who burglarized his shop last August, stealing nearly $60,000 worth of merchandise, including high-end Pokémon items.

He believes it was retaliation for not buying back shoplifted items from a scammer just days earlier.

“I’ve never had a break-in in four years – only one person because I didn’t fall for a scam. He got mad that I called him out on it and so he’s attacking me for that,” said Cantrell.

This time, he says around $11,000 worth of merchandise was taken, including donations for kids.

“We have a donation box that we add to where Pokémon packs and toys are put in and then any kid that’s needy or down on his luck, they can come in and get a free toy from us. There was about $4,500 to $5,000 worth of stuff in that box,” said Robert.

Following the break-ins, Robert says he hasn’t gotten much feedback from police or help from the property owner.

“The property owner refused to let me put bars on the windows and I asked ‘when you gonna replace the glass that was shattered?’ – and he said when he gets around to it,” said Cantrell.

Robert says this stings even more because his place is a tribute to his twin sister, Kassanndra, who was murdered in 2020, just before the shop opened.

Robert says while there’s a chance he’s targeted again, he’s not backing down.

“He’s gonna do what he’s gonna do and I’m gonna do what I gotta do and I’m not going to be victimized or terrorized,” said Robert.
