SEATTLE — Thousands of people are expected to head to Seattle’s waterfront this weekend for the fifth annual Waterfront Block Party.
According to Friends of Waterfront Park, an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 people are anticipated to attend the free event Saturday, as activities stretch across the waterfront for the first time.
“This year’s block party, we have 20 acres of fun and delight,” said Kelli Faryar, senior programs manager for Friends of Waterfront Park.
Faryar said the event has grown significantly since it began in 2021. This year marks the first time the block party will activate the full waterfront park.
“[It’s taking place at] Pier 62, at Salish Steps, [and] at Pier 58. There’ll be activities down by the stadiums. So again, it’s the full park where people can walk and really experience,” Faryar said.
Visitors can expect live music, food trucks, a beer garden, workshops, and dancing throughout the day.
“There’ll be workshops and dancing for folks. At Pier 62, we’ll have a stage with many bands, including Clinton Fearon and the Boogie Brown Band, Indigenous Group Khu.éex’,” Faryar said.
The event is also designed to highlight waterfront businesses and restaurants.
Faryar said many neighboring businesses are participating, including offerings that give visitors “a taste of the waterfront.”
“It’s important for us to shine light on all of the small businesses, all of what makes the waterfront in downtown and surrounding areas thrive,” she said.
As people make their way through the waterfront, organizers say they will encounter activities and attractions spread throughout the area.
Friends of Waterfront Park said organizers are working to make the event accessible and inclusive for everyone. Accessibility resources available during the Waterfront Block Party will include ASL interpreters, closed captioning, assisted listening devices, sensory and nursing tents, sensory kits and a courtesy wheelchair.
