Tunnel collision causes heavy traffic backups on WB I-90 in Seattle

SEATTLE — A two-car collision in the Mt. Baker tunnel along Interstate 90 caused heavy traffic delays during Tuesday’s morning commute.

The Washington State Department of Transportation first shared the collision at 6 a.m., soon adding that the right three lanes of westbound I-90, east of the Mt. Baker Tunnel in Seattle, were blocked. The HOV lane was open for all traffic.

Incident Response, State Patrol, and fire crews responded to the scene.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the two-car injury collision did not cause any serious harm.

By 6:30 a.m., the left lane was opened, but the right two lanes remained blocked. Traffic backup was said to be about 2 miles.

Drivers were told to continue to expect significant delays in the area and plan ahead.
