POULSBO, Wash. — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office says two people were found dead Tuesday morning at a home in a secluded area of unincorporated Poulsbo.
Authorities say the two were residents of the home, and there is no search for a suspect underway.
“These are lovely homes, overlooking Hood Canal — very peaceful, kind of secluded — so it’s not something you see happening around here very often,” said Kevin McCarty from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
Neighbors in the tight-knit community expressed shock and sadness over the deaths, but they are also careful of sharing too much about the family or the area.
“Because we don’t want break-ins, and we also want respect for the family and for the neighbors themselves,” said one neighbor. ”That there’s no more trouble caused in the neighborhood due to the tragedy that happened.”
The sheriff’s office has emphasized the importance of privacy and security for the grieving family, especially in light of past incidents where homes of deceased individuals were burglarized.
In a recent policy change, the sheriff’s office has decided not to release specific addresses of such incidents to prevent potential burglaries.
“We’re gonna kind of keep that under wraps and ask people to understand that we want to give the family time to secure the home so they don’t have a burglary on top of the tragedy they’re going through right now,” McCarty said.
Back in June, a similar situation occurred when a home was burglarized after the address was posted on social media during a homicide investigation.
The medical examiner is currently investigating the cause and manner of death.
