KIRKLAND, Wash. — Around 3 p.m. on Monday, Kirkland police answered a call about a car versus pedestrian crash near the intersection of 84th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 137th Street in the Finn Hill area.
Police said an 81-year-old driver was going south on 84th Avenue Northeast when he left the road and hit two juveniles.
The driver told police he had fallen asleep behind the wheel and drove onto the sidewalk hitting the two.
Both were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital with serious but non-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver remained on the scene and called police to report the crash
The roadway was closed for nearly three hours while police completed their investigation.
According to the police, the driver has been cooperative and is actively participating in the ongoing investigation.
