VIDEO: Regional Technical Rescue Team Rope Rescue Just after 12pm last Sunday (March 30th), Spokane Valley Fire (SVFD) units were dispatched, as part of the Regional Technical Rescue Team (RTRT) to a rope rescue near High Drive and Manito Blvd. Two children were reportedly stuck on the steep hillside below High Drive. Using the trail system just above Qualchan Golf Course, SVFD firefighters hiked to the scene, bringing rescue equipment needed for 2 rescuers. The first rescuer (SFD firefighter) was able to rappel down the embankment and secure the two children, placing them in harnesses and helmets, to protect them from falling debris. The second rescuer (SVFD firefighter) was then lowered by team members and helped the first rescuer secure both children, shielding them from loose, falling debris. The team successfully pulled the second rescuer up the cliffside with the first child, before lowering him again to retrieve the second child. Once both children were safely secured, they were reunited with their father. Speaking with rescuers, the boys said they were playing when part of the cliffside they were on gave way and they fell about 40 feet down the embankment. "The successful outcome of this rescue is a direct result of the strong partnership between City of Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Valley Fire, and Spokane County Fire District 9. The hard work and coordinated efforts of all involved are greatly appreciated. This rescue underscores the effectiveness of our regional collaboration and shared training." - Division Chief Brian Treffry - Spokane Valley Fire Department #SVFD #SVFDYourFireDepartment 4 News Now KREM 2 News The Spokesman-Review KHQ Local News
