Woman survives 'extraordinary' crash into a Seattle apartment building

SEATTLE, Wash. — A 37-year-old woman survived what Seattle police are calling an extraordinary crash in the First Hill neighborhood.

It happened Sunday evening around 6 p.m.

Officers say the woman was driving eastbound on University Street when she tried to make a U-turn at Boren Avenue, hit a parked car, went up onto the sidewalk, through a railing, and onto a ramp attached to an apartment building.

The car spun 180 degrees, fell back onto the sidewalk, hit a streetlight, and then fell, damaging a second parked car.

Officers say the crash caused extensive damage to the outside of the building, but didn’t impact anything structurally and is still safe for those who live there.

The woman only sustained minor injuries and officers say there were no signs that she was impaired. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be evaluated and is expected to be okay.
