EVERETT, Wash. — Police in Everett are searching for the man who stabbed a 13-year-old student on his way to North Middle School Thursday morning.
According to Everett PD, officers determined the victim was stabbed by an adult, who was described by witnesses as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt and yellow beanie. Police released surveillance images of the suspect in hopes that the public might be able to help identify him.
“We have a lot of good people who live in this community – if we know him, he’ll be identified. Why it occurred or the reason behind it, I don’t know,” said Everett Police Chief John DeRousse.
Police say the boy was stabbed multiple times during the unprovoked attack.
“We did a K9 track, we had our drone up. I personally drove through almost every alley in this neighborhood trying to find a clue or find the suspect and we did not see him,” said Chief DeRousse.
Everett Public Schools released a statement, saying, “School staff immediately called 911, provided care to the student and ensured they were transported to the hospital for further medical attention. Lockouts were initiated as the Everett Police Department searched for the suspect in the area.”
The boy was rushed to Providence Regional Medical Center, where he is recovering.
Ox Jones owns a business next to the school – where his son is a student.
“It really hurts me – I cannot stand for this anymore. We’re definitely trying to find out who this person is because we do not tolerate anything like this,” said Jones.
Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said in a statement, “I am absolutely heartbroken about the 13-year-old who was attacked this morning. As a mom who walked her daughter to school along the exact same route every day, I’m horrified by this violent act. Public safety is our City’s top priority and our Everett Police will continue to dedicate all our resources towards identifying and locating the person of interest and ensuring our residents feel safe throughout our community.”
